FACES Director Kathie Whitt invites the public to check out the new billboard display at the McDowell Public Library, Welch. Whitt notes that FACES designed the display in honor of Martin Luther King Day and in recognition of the upcoming Black History Month in February. The display is meant to draw attention to the struggles of African-Americans and their continuing contributions to humanity and the American Way of Life in the midst of those struggles.
The display is captioned “From Chains to Change” and features a map of the U.S. and Africa, connected by a heavy chain. “Rosa (Parks) sat so Martin (Luther King) could walk so Obama could run” the display reminds us. Pictures of several black leaders, past and present, also highlight the colorful presentation. (Photo by Cathy Patton)
