Celebrating Veterans Day

The McDowell County Visitors and Veterans Center celebrated veterans day November 11 by hosting an open house, dedicating the new park, located adjacent to the center, and dedicating the new flag, flag pole and park eagle.
The giant replica of the American eagle was dedicated to Sgt. John Hornick Sr., and Woodmen of the World, Lodge 316, Vice President Gwen Spinella dedicated the flagpole in memory of the late Jessie L. and Beulah McPeak. The Woodmen dedicated the flag in honor of all veterans.
V & V Board President Manuel Horeluk and Vice President Cathy Young served as emcees throughout the patriotic ceremony, which featured a presentation of flags by Woodmen of the World members Wanda Belcher and Charles Pruitt, flag raising by Jesse McPeak and Ron Wyatt, Pledge to the Flag by Charles Honaker, the singing of “God Bless America” by I. Dalton and the playing of “Amazing Grace” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by saxophonist Cindy Meade.
