County Administrator Jennifer Wimmer remains busy fulfilling a variety of duties, including grant writing. Wimmer is pictured presenting a DEP Litter Control Grant to Commissioners Gordon Lambert and Carl Urps during a recent County Commission Meeting.
Wimmer said the DEP Grant would assist the county in tearing down dilapidated houses in the Commission’s Clean it/Green it Program. She notes the Clean it/Green it Program has already razed about two dozen homes, but about 5000 more remain to be done. Tearing down so many structures is costly and very time consuming for the Commission, she said. Local residents who wish to participate in the Clean it/Green it Program must sign a form giving the county permission to tear down the structure. The forms are available through Wimmer at the County Commission Office, Welch.
“We are very pleased to receive this grant to assist us in our ongoing efforts to clean up McDowell County,” she said. “The DEP continues to aid us in a number of ways, and we certainly appreciate them.” (Photo by Cathy Patton)
