Paradise Island Pirates on the Loose
By Cathy Patton
“The Paradise Island PIrates are on the loose, and you may be their next target,” says
Paradise Island Teams Leader Mad Dog Mac and Cap’n Commish.
The McDowell County unit of the American Cancer Society is sponsoring the event May
19 at the County Commission as a part of the annual pre Relay for Life fundraiser. This
year’s goal for McDowell County Relay for Life is $30,000, the pirates report.
The event is open to all members of the community. Participants will be stowed away on
the lovely Paradise Island, where they are required to raise a ransom of at least $100 or
more to be released. A phone will be available for the abuductees to raise bail from their
friends and family members. While at the island, the abuductees will receive a lei from
the lovely island girls, in addition to being treated to a tropical drink and island music.
For a $25 donation, anyone can submit a name of someone to be kidnapped. To add a
name, call Cathy Patton at 436-2894 or 436-3963.
Several members of the community have already been targeted and the list is expected to
fill up quickly, the pirates report.
“It’s going to be a rib tickling good time for both the pirates and the abuductees,” says
Mad Dog Mac. “More importantly, it’s for a great cause.”
The events organizers note that the Paradise Island Pirates have jurisdiction throughout
McDowell County.
“Look for us. We’ll be coming for you May 19,” Mad Dog Mac Says
